LEAGUES and STATES

LEAGUES and STATES UPDATE
For those of you new to swim team, we are half-way through of our season. Two of our more exciting meets are just down the pike, with our League Championships on Saturday, July 30th (rain date is on Sunday, July 31st) and the Vermont Swim Association State Championships on August 6th and 7th.

Southern Vermont Swim League Championships:
Eligibility: All swimmers who have competed two regular season meets and are official members of WST are eligible to swim in this meet. We encourage all our eligible WST swimmers to get involved. Swimmers can enter in up to four individual events and up to two relays.

Background: Hosted by the Southern Vermont Swim League (SVSL) at White's Pool in Rutland, Leagues is a chance for our team to compete against all the teams in our League. 10 and Under swimmers will compete in the morning session, typically arriving around 7:00am and competing until 12:30 or 1pm. 11 and Over swimmers will compete in the afternoon session, until about 6:30 or 7pm. This meet is also the final chance for swimmers to try to qualify for the Vermont Swim Association State Championship meet. More information to follow.

League website: www.svslvt.org

Vermont Swim Association State Championships:
Eligibility: Swimmers can become eligible in one of several ways. First, swimmers must have competed in two regular season meets prior to the SVSL meet.

In addition to having met the minimum meet requirement, swimmers can qualify for the meet by:

1) posting a qualifying time in 2011 up to and including at the SVSL Championships. Qualifying times and meet information can be found at www.vtswim.org

2) swimming the fastest time in an event for which no other swimmer is entered. For example, if no one has qualified for the 200 Freestyle, but Swimmer A is the fastest 200 Freestyle swimmer, she could be entered into that event.

3) competing as a relay swimmer.

We will do our best to make sure that all swimmers who are available and eligible are considered in the entry process. The best way to make sure your swimmer is able to compete in this meet is to ensure coaches have a complete and accurate meet check-off list and to check the meet qualifying times (posted on the VSA website and our team bulletin board). Also, please let a coach know if your swimmer is interested in participating at States even if he or she has not posted a qualifying time.

Background: Hosted by the Vermont Swim Association (VSA), this meet is held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in WRJ, Vermont. 10 and Under swimmers will compete in the morning sessions, 500 Free and 200 Free swimmers compete in the Lunch sessions, and 11 and Over swimmers in the afternoon sessions. Please see the VSA website for more complete details. Woodstock Swim Team does have volunteer responsibilities for this meet as determined by the Meet Director. These will be communicated as we get closer to the meet date. Participant's families should expect to volunteer for a portion of the weekend.

WOW. Fast and furious swimming on Saturday. With many of our swimmers posting personal bests, there were several stand-outs for this meet.

Robert Raymond competed in his first meet with WST...just days after joining the team!
Issy Hiller broke two meet records (25 Breast and 25 Back), and she now holds the meet record in the 25 Breast.
Charlie Amato cut 9 seconds off his 25 Back.
Piper Jenne took a solid 4.5 seconds off her 50 Breast.
Finn McFarland shaved 7 seconds off her 100 Free.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in the meet.
